HOLIDAY HOMEWORK...

CITIZENSHIP PORTFOLIO

Over the holidays, it would be helpful if parents could encourage students to complete the first section of their Citizenship Portfolio, about 'Self and Family'. We are currently working on the other two sections in class, however, some assistance to complete the first section would be very helful. The students will be at different places as they have come from different Year 5 classes and/or schools, so the aim is to get as much done on the first section as possible, as we move ahead on the other sections in Year 6. Many students just need to make some adjustments, whilst others will have more to do. Please click on the link below to find out the requirements.

LEARNING TO PLAY NUMERO
We have been learning how to play Numero during our Maths sessions. It is a very good way for students to build their basic facts skills and number confidence across the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We watched an instructional DVD on how to play the game and then put what we had learnt into practice. We are going to include it as one of the rotations in our Numeracy Blocks and then we will look at teaching our Buddy Class the game as well.

Those three are our individual Merit Award winners from Thursday's Senior Assembly. We are  very pleased and proud of their efforts.

THE SCIENCE OF COLOURING MIXING
.

This experiment required 7 cups with water in and paper towel between them. Food colouring was added, red to the first and last, blue to the third and yellow to the fifth, with just the plain water in the ones in between. The water slowly moved up the paper towel, mixing together in the cups in between, red and blue making purple, blue and yellow making green and the yellow and red making orange. The red and blue was the slowest to mix and make the purple. This action was due to what is called Capillary Action, where water is able to move up or along narrow spaces without being affected by gravity. It is how plants get water up through their roots bringing nutrients up the leaves...
ROOM 26 ART PROJECTS

Every fortnight, the students take part in Art Lessons with our Visual Arts Specialist Miss Randall. The students are currently working on re-creating the portrait of a famous artist using water colours, then turning the portrait into 3D.
