Room 31 Term Three Blog Update

The Student Representatives for Term Three have been selected. They have been doing an excellent job so far in their roles. They have attended and run their first Student Council meeting.

In Mathematics, during the first part of the term we looked at Fractions and Decimals. We are currently working through Ratios and then we move on to Percentages.

Our major STEM focus this term is the designing and construction of sustainable houses. We have been researching the benefits of renewable energy and what does a house need to be classed as sustainable. We are now designing our floor plans and we will begin constructing them shortly. The students will need to bring recyclable materials in to class. The students will show their parents the process they have gone through and the finished product on our Room 31 Learning Journey that will be held on Tuesday September 21 in Week Ten.

The jumps, distance races and throws will be held next Wednesday September 1 at Wattle Grove Primary School. The main carnival will be held at Dawson Park Primary School on Friday September 3.

Last week we held our Book Week Parade. It was great to see all of the wonderful costumes across the school.

Student Citizenship Portfolios and Citizenship Projects are due Monday of Week One, Term Four. The students will present their Citizenship Projects to the class during this week.

We will look at organising a camp meeting in the coming weeks.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the Learning Journeys at the end of term.

Drop Everything and Talk.

Improvement of our speaking and listening skills is a major focus this year in developing more student capacity to explain, use vocabulary and converse. A strategy to help the students improve their oral language skills is Drop Everything and Talk. The students are provided with a topic and are then asked to share their opinions. The topic for: Week One was - Describe a time when you had a big surprise.

WELCOME TO 2021....

Welcome to all of the students and parents of Room 31.

Mrs Queiros and I are looking forward to the wonderful year ahead and to all the fun and interesting times ahead. On the first day of school, Mrs Queiros and I outlined our expectations for the year. We talked about how it is extremely important for the students to strive for excellence and achieve their personal best. As a class, we discussed the importance of being positive role models, treating each other and staff members with respect and being grateful.

Students have started working on their Student Representative Speeches. Last week we heard the first group of students as they tried to persuade the Year Six staff and members from the Administration team as to why they should be chosen to represent the students of our school. The standard of speeches has been very high and the staff have truly been impressed. We look forward to working with all the Student Representatives over the year.

On Friday morning, we presented the selected Student Representatives for Term One. When selecting Student Representatives, we look for equal representation from all classes and a mix of abilities. This means that some students who delivered speeches may not have been selected in Term One.

We are looking forward to meeting and talking to the parents at our Room 31 Parent Information Evening on Tuesday February 23. Due to COVID restrictions, we kindly ask that only one parent per student attends.
